This article walks you through using the NETGEAR Smart Wizard software to set up your NETGEAR wireless adapter for WEP and WPA encryption.

- This article applies to older models of NETGEAR wireless adapters that use the Smart Wizard software. Newer adapter models use the NETGEAR genie software. The troubleshooting principles are the same, but the click-by-click instructions will be different.
- This article assumes that you have already run the adapter installation process using the CD that shipped with your adapter. This will have installed the Smart Wizard (or genie) software on your computer. If you have not installed the software, and do not have the CD, you can download the correct software for your adapter model from http://support.netgear.com, and install it manually.

To configure your NETGEAR wireless adapter using NETGEAR Smart Wizard:
The easiest way to connect a NETGEAR wireless adapter to an existing wireless network is to use the NETGEAR Smart Wizard software utility that comes with your NETGEAR wireless adapter. The method to configure and setup the NETGEAR Smart Wizard will be different based on the type wireless security (i.e.: WEP or WPA) you are using. Below are instructions on how to configure and setup the NETGEAR wireless adapter using the NETGEAR Smart Wizard software utility.
Configuring Smart Wizard for WEP encryption
- Click Start then go to All programs. Look for NETGEAR wireless adapter folder then select the NETGEAR Smart Wizard.
- NETGEAR Smart Wizard wireless utility should appear on your desktop screen.
- Click on the Networks Tab. This will automatically scan for all the available wireless network within your proximity.
- Select the SSID of the wireless network that you want to connect, then hit the Connect button.
- On the Settings tab, click WEP under the Security option then select Enter Key Manually.
Note: If the network key consists of 10 characters, set it to 64 Bits. If the network key consists of 26 characters, set it to 128 Bits. - Type the 10 or 26 characters (Hexadecimal) keys on the space provided.
- In the Profiles field, assign a name to help you remember these wireless network settings in the future, then click Save Profile.
- Click Apply to validate the settings.
- Once connected wirelessly, go to the About tab and check for an IP address.
Configuring Smart Wizard for WPA encryption
- Click Start then go to All Programs. Look for NETGEAR wireless adapter folder then select the NETGEAR Smart Wizard.
- NETGEAR Smart Wizard wireless utility should appear on your desktop screen.
- Click on the Networks Tab. This will automatically scan for all the available wireless networks within your proximity.
- Select the SSID of the wireless network that you want to connect, then hit Connect button.
- On the Settings tab, select WPA under the Security option.
- Type the WPA password/passphrase inside the empty field next to the WPA drop-down menu.
- In the Profiles field, assign a name to help you remember these wireless network settings in the future, then click Save Profile.
- Click Apply to validate the settings.
- Once connected wirelessly, go to About tab and check for an IP address.

Netgear Genie smart setup is a web-interface for Netgear users that is accessible from PC, mobile, and tablet. You can log in to the Genie setup page and by implementing the simple instructions, you can set up the range extender.
The steps to log in to the Netgear Genie smart setup wizard pageare:
- Turn on the range extender and wait for the power LED to get stable.
- From your laptop or smart devices, search for the SSID named Net_ext.
